On October 1st, the Beaumont County Board of Public Order enacted Ordinance 47-B, prohibiting "unlicensed rhythmic movement in gatherings of six or more persons" within county limits. The ordinance was passed without a public hearing and takes effect immediately.
For over a century, Beaumont County residents have gathered, celebrated, and moved together without incident. This ordinance criminalizes a basic human tradition under the guise of "public order," and gives local authorities broad discretion to break up any gathering where dancing is suspected.
